In 2010, Abington Police received re-accreditation from CALEA with the Flagship Designation, which acknowledges innovative community policing programs that have been successful. In 2004, Abington Police received international accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. Abington Police is one of only 14 agencies designated with this status, and as an organization, we remain committed to excellence. This award is reserved for agencies that have received re-accreditation at least five times without provisions or an extension. In 2020, the Abington Police Department received its sixth re-accreditation award and was elevated to Premier Agency status by Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC). These numbers represent a significant departure from previous years, given the profound impact that the COVID-19 pandemic had on our community and police operations.Ībington Police was the first of three agencies in the state to achieve accreditation status in 2002. The Department issued 2373 traffic citations, 2973 warnings for traffic violations, and investigated 1,227 traffic accidents. A total of 610 were charged with a Part II Offense. The Department investigated 1690 Part II Offenses. 218 individuals were arrested for committing a Part I Offense. In 2020, the Department responded to 36,666 calls for service and handled 820 Part I Offenses which are the offenses that the FBI classifies as most serious. The Department is supported by an annual budget of over 20 million dollars. Abington Township Police Department is a State and Internationally Accredited Police Agency with an authorized strength of 92 Officers and a total workforce of 160 employees.
